As I was researching where to stay when we visited the Redwoods, I was struggling to find a place close enough that didn't cost a fortune. Thankfully, I finally found a killer deal on an AirBnB in Trinidad. I would highly recommend this area. It is a cute beach town that is only 20 minutes from the southern end of the Redwoods. Everything is walkable in this town and everyone is so nice. Our AirBnB was right next door to Beachcomber Cafe. They have delicious coffee and pastries. They have a breakfast menu, but we made breakfast in our AirBnB and unfortunately didn't get to try it out.
We ended every day on the beach. We hiked Trinidad State Beach Trailhead. This hike leads you to a 360 degree view of the coast and town. It was so beautiful and easily accessible for anyone to bust it out as a quick hike. From this hike you can watch the sun go down from a higher view.
The last full day on our vacation, we spent a day exploring Arcata which is 15 minutes from Trinidad. They had a few breweries, so of course we were there. We went to Humboldt Brews, which is a local pub. This was a great way to taste local brews from all over the area. Than we went to Redwood Curtain Brewery. This was one of our favorite places. I love going to local breweries, the atmosphere, the beer, and the food trucks is such a great way to enjoy good conversation.
Walking around Arcata we found a climbing gym. We didn't have our gear, but it was calling our name. So we stopped there for a few hours to try some boulder problems. We have never climbed in a gym outside of Utah, so it was really fun to climb problems by a different setter. It was a small gym, but that's what made it fun. Everyone was so friendly and willing to give advice on where we should eat and spend the rest of our day.
After climbing, I was on the prowl for ice cream. I had seen many people walking around with delicious looking ice cream cones and I needed to get one! The Arcata Scoop is a small batch organic ice cream shop, and OMG did it deliver. I got a scoop of honey lavender vanilla with chocolate orange ice cream. It was so good, I have since bought an ice cream machine and made my own versions of these.
We ended the day eating at SALT Fish House. Locals weren't too thrilled on this place, but being from Utah we were craving some good seafood and this place hit the spot. It is such a modern but cozy place. A little expensive, but if you are looking for a night to splurge on food, this is a great option.
I totally failed on taking photos of the food. I was so excited to just enjoy it. I would go back to any of these places any day. It was delicious and great atmospheres. Trinidad is a great place to stay and I would also highly recommend staying here.
What You Want to Know:
Where to Stay:
I adored our AirBnB. The only downside was that there was no TV. But in all honesty, are you ever spending that much time in your room? It was a great price and a great location for what we needed.
I have also heard of people staying in Crescent City when they visit the Redwoods. I preferred Trinidad because it was closer.
What to Do:
Trinidad Beach Head Trail was so amazing. I loved the views and they are benches at each viewpoint so you can stop and enjoy the sights!
Explore a town nearby, we love Arcata. Lots to do and everyone is so nice.
Explore the Redwood National and State Parks. See my post about what trails we loved!
Where to Find the Best Deal:
We booked with AirBnB, and bundled our flight and car on Expedia.
