Shoshone Falls is one of the largest natural waterfalls in the US. Who knew that this secret treasure is in Twin Falls, Idaho?! It is known as the Niagara Falls of the West because it is MASSIVE. It actually taller than Niagara Falls. From Salt Lake City you can visit this amazing waterfall in 3 hours. The drive through Northern Utah and Southern Idaho is beautiful. One of my favorite drives to take. There is an observation deck to view the waterfall, you can take a quick hike around the nature trail, or you can kayak the snake river and see this monster from below. After viewing from the observation deck and seeing how beautiful the Snake River is, that is a new to-do on my bucket list!
But let's start from the beginning. My friend Hannah told me about Shoshone Falls and I was shocked that I had never heard of it. We both decided we needed to take a day trip to go see it immediately and have some much needed friend time. ROAD TRIP! Being a road trip planner is a daunting task, you have to pick the best spots along the way that won't derail you too much, but also offer something unique! On the way to Twin Falls you pass through Ogden and I have always seen beautiful pictures of Utah wildflowers in Mantua. We decided to make a pit stop and see the beautiful wild poppies. The bright red against the green was so gorgeous. You couldn't help but smile. This is a huge photo spot, so if you are a photographer or want to take photos of the poppies, this is the place to do it!
The fun day trip continued as we headed off to Shoshone Falls. Blasting music from our childhood...the 90's, is there anything better than boy bands?! We were getting pumped to see the Niagara Falls of the West. Southern Idaho is pretty flat and we weren't sure when we were going to see traces of the waterfall. All of a sudden we drove over a bridge and a huge canyon appeared with a beautiful green river flowing through it. We could not get over how it snuck up on us and literally took our breath away. It was amazing!
After we'd had enough time staring at the waterfall, we decided to head into Twin Falls and stop at a brewery for some lunch. We decided on Koto Brewing. They had a good selection of beer and food, but also a great place to sit and people watch. It is located on main street and not too bad. I enjoyed their blonde ale and if I wasn't driving home would have enjoyed more! I had shishito peppers and the Caribbean chicken tacos from the Happy Hour Menu. Both were delicious and were right on time! I was starving from all the excitement. It was one of the best road trips and a great way to spend a summer weekend! There is so much more to do in Twin Falls, Idaho and on the way. You can really make it the best weekend trip and find your wild place!
Note: The best time to see the poppies and the waterfall in full swing aim for late May or early June.
