November is a hard month in Salt Lake, the weather starts to change and more storms make the days wet and cold. Escaping to California for the weekend was a great way to soak up the sun before the long winter days came. Chris was there for work and we decided to stay for an extra day to explore Newport Beach. This was my first time in the LA area, and the beach is exactly where I wanted to be. We rented e-bikes and road along the Back Bay View Park in Balboa Island to spend the day.
After riding along the beach we returned our bikes and grabbed some lunch at Ciao. This is a New York style Italian place. I love carbs after a good workout. It's the only way to truly enjoy them, right? After that we went back down to the beach to enjoy the water and get some ice cream. The Balboa Island Pier is beautiful. It could be that it was a clear day but the water was a gorgeous teal color and a seal was having fun stealing fisherman's catches for the day. I was secretly rooting for the seal, but couldn't tell them that. It was clear they were annoyed with him.
That night we were craving some good seafood and went to Etc Sushi to eat our body weight in sushi. It was a little small so the wait was a little long but they have a great menu and the sushi is so well-made and fresh. Chris was thrilled that they had uni, it is hard to find it in Salt Lake for a decent price. Then that night we enjoyed the amazing California sunset from our hotel patio and got ready to go back to the cold the next day. A super quick getaway but worth it.
What You Want to Know:
Where to Stay:
I would not stay directly in Newport. It was super expensive, I would try my best to find an AirBnb super close and than take a Lyft to the beach area.
What to Do:
Rent e-bikes and ride around the beach, Balboa Island, take the ferry to Balboa Island and walk around exploring all the cute shops, or just soak up the sun on the beach.
Where to Find the Best Deal:
I booked my flight through Expedia. I wanted to compare which airline had the best day. Thankfully, Delta was the cheapest and I could get some more skymiles!
