Memory Grove Park is a beautiful park close to Downtown Salt Lake City. It offers a paved trail or a dirt trail that follows the creek to the mouth of City Creek Canyon. I have taken clients to Memory Grove Park to take photos more times than I count but I have never walked all the way back. It was fun to explore the area now that I finally had time and wasn't anxious to get home and edit photos.
We started to go on the side trail which lets you walk through the trees, but it was so icy, I straight up fell and could not go any further without slipping and almost falling again. So we turned back and decided to walk up the road which was not covered in ice. During late spring, summer, and fall I would recommend walking on the dirt trail, but in the winter that is obviously much harder if there wasn't a fresh snow. This walk was super crowded and lots of dogs, which was fun for Bear and Daisy. They love making new friends.
What You Want to Know
Take Me There!
Parking can be a little crazy in this area. You turn down a very narrow street to access the park and you can try and park as close to the entrance as you can. But it does get packed so be prepared.
How long is the hike?
This is a 2.1 out and back trail. Once you reach the dead end at the end of the road and another parking lot, this turns into City Creek Canyon. If you continue onto the trail on the right that is the Bonneville Shoreline and dogs are allowed. If you go to the left that is City Creek Canyon and a watershed, so no dogs are allowed past that point.
What Do I Wear?!
Since it is so close to the city and you can chose to walk the paved road or a dirt trail you can really wear whatever.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes! Memory Grove is also considered to be a dog park. Dogs do have to be kept on a leash, but there are lots who aren't. I usually wait until I get away from the pond and monument area. There are usually a lot of photo sessions taking place and I would hate for my dogs to be photobombing the entire time.
