Dublin...this city quickly became my favorite place I've visited. Something about it made me feel at home. Everyone was so nice and even though it is huge, it felt welcoming. The night we got into town we went to Sophie's to have our anniversary dinner. This is a rooftop restaurant and bar that overlooks Dublin. The food wasn't the best we have ever had, but they had creative presentation and the views were enough to compensate for that. I loved their cocktails. Delicious and fresh.
We stayed at the Ashling Hotel. This hotel was a great location and had free parking, which was great for our rental car situation. There breakfast was a little expensive but we loved the lounge area and the rooms were nice and clean.
There was one thing we wanted to for sure do in Dublin and that was tour the Guinness Factory. We both love beer, so of course this was calling our name. I loved that it was a self-guided tour. You could take your time in places you were enjoying yourself and hurry through others if you weren't as into it. There was a quick introduction at the very beginning but after that you are let loose. I loved seeing the advertisements that they have used and the display of the old characters that were part of the brand. Then you get to pour your own Guinness and enjoy it in the sky lounge which overlooks Dublin. This is the most crowded place in the factory and it is almost impossible to get a seat. But you have to experience it!
We than walked to St. Patrick's Cathedral. You do have to pay to go in. At the time, I was a little annoyed by that. But after seeing Notre Dame in flames, I realized the value of keeping these places in pristine condition and experiencing them as they are. From there we were off to see the Temple Bar, there was also an ice cream shop in this area I had my eye on. My maiden name is Murphy and Murphy's Ice Cream is my kind of place. I adore ice cream and will seek it out wherever I am. I would highly recommend this ice cream shop, it is in a fun area of Dublin to explore and will give you a much needed pick-me-up.
We wanted to end our day eating at The Brazen Head, the oldest pub in Dublin. On the way there we walked through Trinity College, which was another beautiful campus. After all that walking, we were in need of another beer. We were looking for the nearest bar and came across a microbrewery that had the best red ale I have ever tasted. If you are in the area go to Porterhouse! There wasn't one beer that I did not like. We were sad to go, and not looking forward to the flight home. But our last dinner at The Brazen Head was the perfect way to eat a traditional Irish meal listen to some music and enjoy one last Guinness!
What You Want to Know:
Where to Stay:
The Ashling Hotel is very close to the Guinness Storehouse. From there I was able to walk around Dublin with minimal problems on my broken foot. If I can do it, anyone with perfect health would be able to make this work. I thought it was a great place to stay in Dublin.
What to Do:
There is so much to do! We only had 2 days, so we decided to do the Guinness Storehouse instead of Jameson. If you are a whiskey fan I would recommend doing both. I've heard nothing but great things, I just don't care for whiskey. Go to pubs throughout the city, Porterhouse was my absolute favorite! Sophie's is a great place for a nice dinner with a killer view. The Temple Bar area is beautiful and stop by Murphy's Ice Cream while you are there! Eat irish stew with a guinness!
Where to Find the Best Deal:
We booked this trip with TripMasters. It included all of our hotels, car, and flights for traveling from London to 4 cities in Ireland. A little pricy, but it was nice to have everything planned out for us in one go.
