I am sure you are like us and had the hardest time figuring out how to organize all of our camping gear, all the while you keep accumulating more and more! It took us so much time to load everything into the car and was a pain to get camp set-up with everything all over the place! We were done with this chaos and decided to get a huge tub and get organized! This has made our life so much easier and I can't even tell you how quickly we are able to load up and go now. It is also a dream while we are camping. We can have more of the things we need because they are neatly organized and always accessible. The most expensive part of this project will be the tub that holds everything, but everything else you can find at Wal-Mart or a dollar store.
As you can see we have everything from cookware to beer cozies in this tub. I'll mention some of my favorites later, but I wanted to show you how easy it can be to have everything you need in one place. One of my favorite things about the tub is that I can easily see what we need to re-up on before the next trip. All you need is a deep tub, you don't want it too wide or it won't fit into your car. Next, go to the dollar store and get little tubs that will fit into the larger tub, we bought 5 and made them colorful to have some fun. Last, all you need to do is organize your gear. I have everything categorized in each little tub. For example, first-aid, I have band-aids, bug spray, sun screen, a dog first-aid kit, and aloe vera.
Alright, now into the gear where I can nerd out. This is a Luci. If you have never seen one before, this is a game-changer. It is a solar paneled light/lantern that folds flat. It is the easiest thing in the world to store! We have two, one for bathroom runs and one for the tent. I also have collars for the dogs that light-up. This is another great camping tip because they can run around and I know exactly where they are when it gets super dark. We keep a bag of dog food and their bowls in this tub so we never forget. Low key, I have forgotten their food before. I am a terrible dog mom when I'm rushed!
This is the newest purchase and I cannot get over it! It is a foldable bucket/bin. We use it to do our dishes. We also use Campsuds, which is biodegradable soap. This has lasted us 3 camping seasons! Kitchen wise we have an ovenmit for cooking in the fire. We bring our cast iron a lot and tin foil doesn't always keep it cool enough to grab. We have coffee, a french press, we use hotel coffee packets for sugar and stirrers. We have 3 pans from Wal-Mart along with a mixing spoon and a spatula. We use reusable plates and have reusable sporks to eat with, less dishes to clean and it saves us from wasting plastic. We usually have a recycling bag and a trash bag. We don't stop recycling just because we are camping.
This is the usual set-up every morning. We have a lot of other gear in our tub but it is really about what works best for you and what you need to feel comfortable and have a relaxing camping trip. I have a complete list below to give you ideas. The best part about a tub is that you can experiment and bring as much or as little as you want. We have filled our tub to the brim for a few trips and found that is was IMPOSSIBLE to find anything and we were back to where we started. This season I feel like we have finally perfected it and we have plenty of room to put extra things like lifejackets and save some more room in our car while traveling. Find your sweet spot and experiment!
